So, I said April was going to be hectic and it was. And since then I just haven't felt overly compelled to write. Plus I realized the other day that I don't entirely remember how to make The Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle shots, and I didn't want to completely ruin the current trend. But I've decided I don't care too much because they are the most boring ponies IMO, and their shots reflected that. Yeah, bring on the haters. So one day I'll go back and create them again, but until then I'm moving on.
Anyway, this is what I did while I was gone. 2 major events occurred in April, the most time consuming was my sister, Tracy, getting married. We had her Bachelorette party on April 13th. Now, Tracy isn't nerdy, so the night overall doesn't really fit my theme here, but still I'm telling the story. So, being the awesome bridesmaids (cough groomsmen cough) that we are (Tracy is gay, so her and her wife both had bridesmaids and Danielle's bridesmaids were way girlier/bridesmaid-y), we tried to make the night as unique as possible. So, Sarah and Michelle were in charge of making Phillies colored Bachelorette shirts, Gina booked as a suite at the Phillies game, and I was in charge of the Jell-O shots (oh and Michelle also made Boob cupcakes).
I don't know if you are aware, but it's really almost impossible to find little plastic portion cups in a reasonable count. So, we spent $20 and now have 2500 little cups for making Jell-O shots. Because I really like experimenting with alcohol, I took this as a call to arms. And thus, set out to the task of making about 200 shots, half of which were for the Bachelorette party. In an effort to keep with the Phillies theme, I made berry blue and strawberry jello shots.
Blue
Boil 1 cup of water
Once boiling stir in 1 standard box of berry blue Jello
Continue stirring until powder is fully dissolved (about 3 minutes)
Add 1/2 cup 90 Proof Coconut Parrot Bay
Add 1/2 cup standard proof Coconut Parrot Bay
Pour into 2 oz portion cups (I used a gravy boat for pouring)
Refrigerate at least 2 hours
Note: You can change proportions of 90 proof to standard proof, but I would not recommend using more than 3/4 cup of the 90, at some point there will be too much alcohol and the gelatin won't set.
Red
Boil 1 cup of water
Once boiling stir in 1 standard box of strawberry Jello
Continue stirring until powder is fully dissolved (about 3 minutes)
Add 1/2 cup Pineapple Parrot Bay
Add 1/2 cup Coconut Parrot Bay
Pour into 2 oz portion cups (I used a gravy boat for pouring)
Refrigerate at least 2 hours
Both were delicious. So we set off with our wares to tailgate for the evening. We ate all of our shots before the game and then proceeded to drink and do shots from the bar all game. It was a blast (though I don't think I watched any actual baseball). So we're leaving the game, and Tracy finally decided that she wanted to go to the gay bar. Before jumping in the car to go, I grabbed a Nalgene full of Mojito, chugged a bit and went about my merry way. About half to the bar, I'm complaining that it feels like I swallowed an ice cube that just won't melt/move down my throat. I'm insistent that it's an ice cube and everyone in the car is laughing at me because it's been like 15 minutes and there is no way the damn thing would wouldn't have melted by now. Finally Michelle looks at me and says "You're gonna puke. Katie, pull over." So we pull into a lot and I puke into a bag, relieving myself of this ice cube, and I feel awesome. I loosely tie the bag up (noticing that there is something green in there, but being too drunk to figure out what) and toss it into the parking lot and create what been affectionately referred to as a "Vom-bomb." We move on to the bar and I proceed to have a relatively normal night...full of dancing to N'Sync and Spice Girls...at the gay bar...Okay, so maybe not normal for me, but still unhindered by my earlier regurgitation. The next morning I was talking to my mom and that's when it dawned on me... I PUKED A LIME! It's going down into my list of forever awesome things I can say I did, though given the choice I probably would not do again.
Which now leads to event 2 for April, Kevin moved to Australia for work. He'll only be gone 3 months, but Kev and I have been friends for like a decade, and it's very abnormal to go a whole 3 months without seeing him. So, the night after the bachelorette party, we threw him a surprise(ish) going away party. Admittedly, I was not quite as raucous as my usual self (I blame the lime hangover), but still we ate the other half of the Jell-O shots I made (these ones were lime and tropical fusion.)
Lime
Same as above with 1/2 90 proof 1/2 pineapple
It was weird, I wouldn't make it again, but Kev's favorite color is green so it made sense.
Tropical
Same as above, 1/2 90 proof, 1/2 pineapple
Best Jell-O shot of the weekend!
And all around just had a good time. People played pong, everyone got to spend some time with Kev, I didn't die. All in all great weekend.
The wedding itself happened the weekend of the 28th and we were clearly busy that weekend. I'm not going to go into too much detail about it. While it was a gay wedding and in that regard very non-traditional, the actual ceremony and the event itself were extremely traditional.
And now that my life isn't crazy, hopefully I will update more. I have a bunch of things I want to write about, I just need to find the time.
